itinerary 4 - cazzano di tramigna

History and culture in Val Tramigna

The name “Cazzano di Tramigna” refers to the sources of the Tramigna river, which create the picturesque Lake Mora (or Fontana) in the center of the town. The suggested itinerary, starting right from the sources of the Tramigna river, will follow ancient paths that cross hilly woods, vineyards and the cherry orchards where the “mora di Cazzano” is produced. It will allow us to discover the unexpected beauties of this valley and the ridge that separates it from the nearby Val d’Illasi.

Church of San Giorgio Martire

The Church of San Giorgio Martire is the parish church of Cazzano di Tramigna. It is located in the centre of the village and dedicated to Saint George the Martyr, the patron saint of the village. The building was constructed in the last two decades of the 19th century, replacing an earlier one that already existed in the 14th century. It was built to the design of architect Don Angelo Gottardi, in neo-Romanesque - neo-Gothic style, and was consecrated on 29 September 1906 by Cardinal Bartolomeo Bacilieri, Bishop of Verona.

Sanctuary of San Felice

The Church of San Felice, built between the 9th and 10th centuries, is among the oldest churches in eastern Verona. Inside of it are kept numerous valuable features, including a splendid fresco of Crucified Christ dating back to the 16th century, deeply worshipped by locals.
